Hi All,

Too much rust for comfort on my current AGP so looking to replace it and want to purchase before the rest of the North wakes up and realizes that summer will indeed arrive this year. I know lots of members have had a good experience with the Pool Factory so have been looking there. I am very seriously considering the all resin Aurora (30'X54" Saltwater Aurora Round Pool | Above Ground Pools) though at almost twice the price it gives me pause.... on the other hand, paying an extra $3k to never have to worry about buying/installing another pool again is pretty attractive.

And then I took a closer look at the Daytona (30'x54" Daytona Round Pool) and really really like the looks (as does my wife) which I thought I would never say about an AGP (and why I painted mine, see link in signature). $3K less than Aurora makes it very tempting. If I could be highly confident I could get 10 years out of it, I think that would sway me, however, I know that an early death (like 4 years) does happen now and then...

Does anyone have insights on the materials or coatings described for the Daytona? It is all steel which many seem to really dislike but it is all I've ever known. More at the link but here are key descriptions of materials. I don't know how much is real vs marketing.

  • 7" steel top ledges; 8" bronze colored steel verticals
  • All structural parts treated with double coating of heat setting polyester
  • 54" wall finished steel core is pre-treated with crystalline zinc phosphates to improve resistance to corrosion
  • Reinforced steel core - anti-corrosion coating of magnesium, copper, and aluminum increases rust protection by 72%
  • Polypropylene connecting parts are corrosion proof

Is the all resin material something that will take latex paint? All resin painted to my liking could sway me back the other way.

What else should I be thinking about?

Thx
Paul

steel vs all resin is not even a fair fight.. Resin wins all day and all year long... There is one stainless steel part that all your connections and skimmer goes through.. When there is nothing to rust it can last a VERY long time...

A steel pool will rust no matter what, its steel.. The coating and extra stuff may make it last longer but it is still going to rust... There are ways to cover the steel that it will never rust as nothing can get to the steel but it is expensive and they do not use it.. Bed cover spray will work but it would cost 3 grand to coat the entire wall inside and out and it will not look pretty.. I have steel weights holding down my ladder for 8 years and they are covered in bed liner.. not one bit of rust from them...

Resin wins.. :)

OK, thanks for that info, and the rails are one of the things I like the most in terms of aestethics, so would hate to see those be the first to lose their looks.

I'm also liking this one, but what do they mean by injected resin? Wall is steel so maybe just uprights are resin? Glad it's a "refined and solid design" though, lol.

  • Full 52" steel wall
  • 100% injected resin structure
  • Refined and solid design
  • Pool walls with architectural 3D-design effect
  • Industry renowned, heat-treated, multilayered protection process for superior sturdiness
  • Optimized geometry for better weight distribution and ease of assembly
  • Elevated bottom rails and base plate for superior sturdiness and deeper insertion of wall support
  • Features adjustable ledge covers, thanks to the one-screw interlock system
  • Pool uprights are designed with a durable top place interface
  • At 1.6 inches high, the bottom rail keeps the wall in place during ground shifts
  • LED StarGlow Starjet System Option
  • Ideal for salt sanitation systems
  • Resistant to UV, chlorine and salt
  • Made in Quebec

I ended up going with the Carvin Woodstock in the above post and just received delivery today! The all resin Aurora was very tempting, but I just love the looks of the Carvin so much more. If I get 10-15 years out of it and I will be happy.

I bought an SWG as well, so next step is advice on reconfiguring electric and plumbing to accommodate.

Not yet. It's in my garage in boxes, install date is 5/23. Having it professionally installed.
Awesome. I took the same route you did. My pool is being delivered and will be in my garage tomorrow. The install date I have is June 8th.

Right now my water is about 2’ I will start draining this weekend but leave enough to keep the liner down.

Can’t wait to see your build!

Where did you order your pool from?

There are a few pics day of install in this thread:

I really love the look of it, and guess I should replace my avatar.

I got it at American Sale which is a smallish (5 stores?) chain local to the Chicago area
