Slightly more efficient and saves a few bucks (price for one 3-way valve is cheaper than price for two 2-way valves)

If I'm seeing it correctly, you'll lose the ability to shut off or adjust the middle return line.

I'm all for saving some bucks but it's peanuts in the grand scheme of things. Plumbing and equipment is the backbone of the operation.
