We currently have a DE filter for our pool and the constant pumping and backwashing is a drag. We have waited 6 years and we are now looking for better options.

1) Hayward ASL cartridge filter SwimClear C7030 700 sq ft - $4,150.00
2) Hayward S244T 24" sand filter - $3,150.00
3) Hayward Vertical Grid DE6020 Filter - $4,025.00 (or + $375 to upgrade to larger DE7220)

It seems DE is still best to capture the finest particles and the verticle grid, although requires backwashing, it won't require bumping. That's a huge plus for us. Please share your option - and if these prices are aligned.

It comes down to personal preference as well.
With a Sand filter you will need to backwash also.
With a cartridge filter you will not have option to vacuum to waste unless you build in a T junction with a valve between the pump and the filter.
If you do not like to backwash then cartridge filter is the way to go. Some members claim they only have to clean their cartridge filter once a year. Your option seems to be the largest one so that is good.

Do you have space on the pad for any of the 3?
