Hi All, around half of my pool deck has settled, I believe from 2 leaks I had 2 years ago. The man I hired to repair the deck after the leaks were fixed is doing the work. They will saw the existing deck to break it up for removal. What I’m wondering is if there is anything I can/should do to keep the dust and pieces of concrete out of my pool. It is a free-form pool so it might be difficult to follow the contours and the pool will still be open as I normally close it in November. Any ideas are appreciated. I’ve added a few pics of where the deck has lifted off the beam. IMG_1999.jpegIMG_2001.jpeg

Float a tarp on the water to catch any large debris that falls in the water. Yiu can duct tape the edges of the tarp to the tile. Then carefully pull the tarp out daily to clean it off.

I’ll experiment with the tarp. I’m more worried about the concrete dust. Is there any chance the dust will clog my filters?

Yes, there is a chance. You have to view the cost of new cartridges as a cost of the project.

Note your clean filter psi before the work begins and then see if your cartridges will clean up back to that PSI when all is done.

This was a repair job we had done this summer...where they had to dig/cut out the top of the bond beam. We couldn't cover the pool since much of the work was done by them as they stood in the partially filled pool. We too have a cartridge filter. No worries though. The guys picked up all of the debris of any size with dust pans and brushes in the water - of which there was a lot. They were very fastidious about cleanliness. Then I ran my robot (which has pleated filters like a cartridge filter) like 20 or more times in the pool. Dust was then gone. Cleaned the filters out after that and all was good. Filters were also pretty new and the dust came out just fine.

Thank you for responding. You had quite a bit more going on than I do, I think. I guess we’ll see when they take the deck off.
I’m trying to do this with the pool still in operation as the water is too warm to close. Last year I closed early and opened late and I’ll never do that again! I will get with the contractor and see if he is planning on using anything to keep the debris out of the water.
