So my pool is still open - I went to close it a week or two ago and discovered my cover had deteriorated quite a bit. It was on it's last leg, but I planned to get one more winter out of it. We replaced the liner, installed a SWG, and had the plumbing redone this year. But, given it's condition, I decided to go ahead and replace this year. But that means my closing got pushed back a bit.
So I am waiting for the new cover to arrive, have the pump running a couple of hours a day to keep things circulating, but last night the pump started making weird noises. I turned it off and pulled the plugs because I was worried the above ground stuff might freeze, it got down to 32 last night.
So, what do I do? I can't replace the pump this year, but may have to first thing in the spring. Should I close it up and risk the pool filling with leaves and junk while I wait for the cover? Should I try to repair the pump? It sounded like something scraping in the motor.
In a bit of a pickle...
ALSO, when I replace the pump, what should I get? It's a single speed Hayward - I put in a new Hayward Heat Pump last summer, and a Jandy Salt System this summer. I'm worried if I put in a variable speed pump how it would interact with the two devices, I know there are control systems but I doubt they work between brands? So would it be more important to have support between the pump and heater, or pump and SWG?
