Pump motor is going out. Motor is about 5 years old. The rest of my equipment is original to the pool, 14 years old.

Pool repair shop quoted $1400 to install a new variable speed pump (Hayward Super Pump VS).

Other option is to replace the existing motor with something similar to what I currently have - pool shop quoted $450 for that option.

I could try to DIY but not sure how comfortable I am with the motor wiring.

What would you do?

How much is the Hayward Super Pump VS without the install? What is the lowest you can find it for?
What is the price difference from their quote.
If both the motors are 220v, then wiring would not be much different, if at all.
In the end, I would do it my self, but that is person dependent.
