Removing my pump for winter.

In the winterization meeting today, it was recommended to remove your pump for winter. So I went out and looked at my pump and have a question. Are we talking about just removing the pump? Or, are we talking about removing the entire motor and pump assembly? If it’s just the pump, it looks like four bolts and then cap off the pvc lines. If it’s the entire assembly, then it looks like a small electrical job because the motor is hard wired. I’ve added a couple pictures to help clarify.7D81E553-B701-47C0-9F0F-8643CD6D8552.jpeg

I assume that if you just remove the pump that you wrap the motor?

The whole thing. It's actually the electronics and motor you're more concerned with while sitting out there in the elements. So a little homework now to get comfortable with your disconnects would be good.

PS - Just realized the username. Bwaaahaaaa.

Thanks - homework is exactly what I’m doing. Thank you teacher. So, do you just take off that cover and unscrew some terminals? The bonding lug is no problem and the plug on the top in the above picture looks like it just unscrews. It’s the wire running through the conduit that I’m thinking will be a small project.

As for the user name - I have young grandkids :)

How is the motor connected on the other end? Maybe a pic there too? Straight to a junction box or something else? Not sure if it's easier to disconnect on the motor end or the source end while leaving the pigtails/conduit intact on the motor.

Good point. I’ll look at it tomorrow. I have an electrician friend coming over soon to put in an outlet. He’ll know what to do. My guess is that it will be easier to disconnect at the motor, but I’ll verify.

Keep in mind those boxes are sealed so don’t jump too much if you’re not comfortable with redoing the power. My setup is a lot like yours with the pump “hard wired” thus I’ve left it outside for about 5 years now over the winter. For sure being outdoors reduces its lifespan, but by how much? Know body knows. Personally, I suspect not by as much as you may fear.
