Folks I had a CYA of 140-160 4 days ago...I drained best I can calculate 6300 gallons...My refill is almost done...I left a bit of room since we are expecting 1.5 - 2.0 inches of rain in the next 36 hours...I just finished my test..here are my numbers..

I did add chlorine as suggested here at start of refill when I was able to circulate..added 2 1/2 gallons...

FC 21
CC 0
PH 7.7
TA 75
CH 400
CYA 80

Pool temp 80

My goal on CYA was shooting for 70 ish...our daily rains are just starting this week..hoping I can drop it down as I drain after rains and/or evaporation refills over the next 1-2 months..

Ch has me puzzled as I tested city water source yesterday and it was 250. The value 4 days ago was 420.

Water is a bit cloudy...

Should I leave PH where it is?

If I slam..FC / CYA chart tells me SLAM FC is 31...

to slam or not to slam..what thinks Ye??

Thanks folks!

pH is unreliable at that FC, so not sure if you should adjust until it drops again. If your water is cloudy, and knowing you had such high CYA, I'd go ahead and SLAM since your FC is already close. It might be over very quickly, so not much to lose and lots to gain. You might only do it for a day and then pass OCLT with nice sparkling water and only spending a few gallons of bleach. :)

You might want to bring it up to shock level to see if it clears up and before rain starts. Either way, you should do an OCLT to see your FC loss overnight. If it's less than 1, you should be good. Also, I don't think an OCLT would be accurate if it rains in between evening and morning testing.

Yeah..I read that unreliable PH at high FC level after I posted my question..OK..sounds good..I'm going to start the SLAM...only needs 1 1/2 gals...This is really weird...for the first time after owning this pool..I'm actually excited as heck to pour chlorine in it..Is funny how you feel when you see the light at the end of the Pool Store Chemical Tunnel!...Woohoo....Let the SLAMMING begin!

If you're not using a SWG, your CYA of 80 is a bit high. A SLAM at this CYA level will require a much higher FC target. You might be better off draining some more water to get that CYA down to at least 50, especially since you're in Florida.

I understand...will adjust as our summer rains hit...finally! State has been burning up with wildfires...so hopefully over the next month I can replace 1000 -1500 gallons with drain n rain...

My pool looks amazing already and the Slam is not done...If I could do cartwheels..I would!

Woohoo!

You folks are amazing! My SLAM is not done yet..FC dropped from 31 to 27 overnight..but CC is 0 and pool is as clear or clever then I have seen it in years! You have won me over already...

Bowing in front of all of you chanting..I am not worthy..I am not worthy!

Thanks to all of you for your help!
