Recommendation for plants

Hi there
We live in Victoria, Australia in the southern part of the state. When we moved here and inherited the pool we planted an Australian native shrubby type tree called Agonis Burgundy. They are planted in planter boxes that are in an L shape around the pool. The decision to plant them was ideal in the beginning but because of the restriction of the planter boxes that have not grown ideally as if they were planted into the open ground. They grew up rather than wide and not straight but at at 45° even though they were staked. They’re healthy enough but are really no longer suitable.
Hopefully someone can suggest a low growing, evergreen and salt tolerant shrub that looks great and will grow in the conditions I have highlighted. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I hesitate to suggest this but....I know some bamboo types are grown in planters (so that they don't spread roots and take over)

Otherwise, perhaps a local garden center could advise you better as they know your climate and soil conditions best.

I've been happy with potted Japanese Maples around my pool, if you have a suitable climate. Although they are deciduous, the leaves tend to fall in the planter. There are so many varieties that they are a neat hobby in and of themselves. There are miniature Japanes Maples but the non miniature only grow to the size of the pot, or you can plant in ground, of course.

Try westringia (coastal rosemary). Very salt and wind tolerant, varieties from low shrubs to small trees. Grey/green foliage with white flowers. Native, very hardy.
Also try eremophila. Again up to small tree size, native, hardy.
