Raypak Cupro-Nickel NG Heater Sourcing

Hello everyone,

I am looking for the best place to buy a Cupro-Nickel NG Raypak Heater (399k BTU). My old unit had the heat exchanger rust through, so time to replace.

My local supply houses want $3900+ for it, but I wanted to check here for any recommended vendor/best pricing possible.

Why do you want cupronickel? Do you think it will last longer?

TFP typically recommends against paying extra for cupronickel because it lowers the efficiency of the heater, costs more (obviously) and really won't last any longer. Pool water balance and chemistry is the biggest determinant of heat exchanger life and in almost all cases the exchanger gets compromised because the pool water is allowed to become too corrosive or too scaling. In some instances the flow rate through the heater can be too high leading to damage, but that is rare.

I want cupro-nickel due to extended times away from home, the pool has seen scaling or pH tilts due to the gunite walling. An extra piece of mind is worth the cost to heat and cost to purchase increase. Also, my pool is salt and I prefer to be safe when it comes to any component.

I located an ASME CuproNickel 399k BTU unit with ProTek Shield for $2,847.01 + $175 freight. I think this is the best deal I will locate.
