I'm getting ready to clean my pool and get it ready for the season and it needs a major SLAM job (the water is so green I can barely see the bottom). I just read in the pool chemicals class on the website here that after adding CYA I should wait a week before backwashing or cleaning the filter. Does that mean I should wait a week before starting the SLAM process since my DE filter will almost certainly need to be backwashed during the SLAM process? Thanks for the clarification.

if you place your cya in an old sock and hang it in front of a return you will still be able to clean your filter
the no cleaning filter within one week was because the original instructions to add cya, say to add it to your skimmer
dont forget to take a daily photo in the same spot
please post a full set of test results and the kit you used to get them
keep the cya to a minimum during the slam as it will impact how much chlorine you use
first step is to get your ph in the low 7s
then i would add enough chlorine to get you up to 10ppm and then retest in one hour
if fc hasnt dropped too much then add your cya
