Rainbow 300 installation question

Hello,

I inherited a Rainbow 300 offline chlorinator with my in-ground pool. It is not working well while connected but all the parts seem to be OK. Connections are good. Water flows through the system when the outlet is not connected. The check valve is working. But when on line, the tablets are not dissolving.
I suspect installation and not enough pressure differential between the inlet and outlet to sustain flow. Looking online I find diagrams for installing where the inlet is downstream of the filter and outlet is downstream of the heater/check valve. This is like mine.

I also find installation diagrams where the inlet is before the filter. This is not my installation.

I am curious whether there is more pressure in the pipe between the pump and the filter which might give a better pressure differential to the outlet of the chlorinator?

Is my installation with the inlet downstream of the filter correct or should the inlet be upstream of the filter?

Thanks

Paul

The first recommendation is to not use it at all. It adds trichlor to the water which contains cyanuric acid (CYA)or stabilizer. Pretty soon your CYA will be so high that the chlorine will not work. It may already be too high if this was the method previously used. Go to pool school and look at the CYA-free chlorine relationship. The TFP method is to use non stabilized forms of chlorine for maintenance. That means liquid chlorine or a salt water chlorine generator. You can use trichlor until your CYA is at your goal which is likely 50.

So the basis of the TFP method is to get a good test kit, test yourself, and maintain your chlorine level based upon your CYA level. It's all in pool school including test kit recommendations. Folks on here will help you. Just post your test results if you have questions

Hey Paul,

Make sure the inlet connection (the one going to the control valve) is connected between the pump & filter and [not] downstream of the filter for proper water pressure/flow.
