Rain During SLAM -

I think I know the answer but wanted to get the groups input. I am in the midst of SLAMing (day 5).
Just finished testing the water: FC = 10 , CC = 2.5 , TC = 12.5 , TA = 120 CYA = 50 , pH = 7.3
My question is regarding adding chlorine. I want to keep the FC up around 12 ppm, and I need to add a bit over a quart to get it there based on PoolMath.
Should I add the chlorine before or after the storm? My CYA is on the high end, so I hoping the rain dilutes it a bit, but I don't want to waste chlorine.

Go ahead and add if it needs it. You won't lose much to UV rays if it's grey and cloudy. And if CYA is 50, shock level is 20 FC, not 12. [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] Being stingy with the bleach just delays the whole process and will ultimately end up wasting more bleach than if you got a quick kill.

No expert here, but I would guess either before or after because I would figure on at least a a little dilution. Depending on how much rain you think you'll get or do get, I would say 2ppm's over your target won't hurt, but will absorb any dilution that may accure. When I had to do a SLAM, I would overshoot by 4 to 6ppm's if I wasn't going to be able to check as often as I wanted to. End result was it worked perfectly. For the couple extra pennies, it was worth it to make sure I didn't take a step backwards. Keep up with it and it will work great. POP (Pool Owner Patience) was my biggest problem. Good Luck!

Sounds good. I'm going to add another gallon and a half to get to FC of 20. I am very happy with how things are progressing. These forums and the helpful advice I have been getting have saved me money and numerous trips to the pool store! My pool was a swamp when I started on Saturday, and now I can actually see the bottom on the shallow end! Thanks again everyone!
