I've got some questions about sump pumps for draining a pool. A friend would like to borrow my sump pump to fully drain her vinyl pool for a liner change. She’s got a septic leach field behind her pool and some landscaping that she would like to avoid so she needs a 150-200 ft. hose for the sump pump so she can direct the water to the back of your 2 acre yard. I’ve used a 100 ft garden hose to partially drain my pool before after closing, and I got nowhere close to the 3000 gallons per hour that it is supposed to get. I see that you can buy a 200 ft backwash hose that is 2 inches in diameter or a 150 ft backwash hose that is 1.5 inches in diameter but I wasn’t sure if a backwash hose would work any faster than a garden hose. I also don’t know if a backwash hose would be durable enough to work for 6-8 straight hours since its made out of flimsy material. I also don’t have an attachment on my sump pump for a backwash hose but I’m wondering if there is an adapter that can be purchased that will work. I also need to know if she needs a sump pump with a vertical float on it in order to drain all of the water out of a pool. The one that I have does not have a vertical float on it. If a vertical float is needed in order to get all of the water out, she will need to rent or buy one instead. She doesn't want to hire her pool guy to drain it because he doesn't have a long enough hose and he wants to charge her $500 to drain it.

It will.

It is durable enough.

Most sumps (check yours) have a 1.5" threaded port. I would build a PVC extension from pump to side of pool with a 45 or 90 at the top and then use this in the end. You then attach the backwash hose to this adapter with a hose clamp.

You do not need a vertical float.

One thing to add. If there isn’t a float to shut it off, then the neighbor MUST be there to shut it off when it’s done draining or it can overheat and damage the pump. (Ask me how I know…)
