Questions regarding pool closing.

I normally go to the local pool company and hire their people to close the pool. However, the majority of the time, the people sent don't have a clue regarding closing a salt water pool, let alone, a non-vinyl inground pool. Ours is gunite. I always end up hoping it makes it through the winter. My challenge is there aren't many choices in this area as I live in rural SW Virginia, about 35 miles NE of Bristol, TN. The location is about 2,000 feet above sea level. Winters can be mild, to a rare 15" snow fall. All pool equipment is located inside in an area which doesn't fall below 40 degrees during the winter. We occasionally fall into the 10's at night. And I don't close the pool until the first week of December and open it back up mid-March through 1st week of April. Is it too big a risk to run the pump and hope for the best or try again to find someone competent to close it. I'd try it myself, but I know I cannot manage the pool cover.

Thank you for your insights!

Have you read...

Do you have a backup generator to keep your pool pump running if your house loses power?

Are you capable of draining your equipment if your pump fails in the middle of a cold snap?

Thank you for bringing me into reality. While I've not had any power loss here there is a first time for everything. The thought of dealing with the pool in an extended loss of electricity situation is disconcerting. Without further reading, I'll be closing the pool.
