Welcome to finally posting TFP!
I see you've been a member for over5 years.
TFP recommended parameters have evolved. Use the PoolSchool numbers. The TF-100 kit instructions are being modified. If your test kit is a few years old like mine, the instructions do not refledtthe most recent recommendations.
Pool stores recommendations are usually based off of pool owners using TriChlor pucks, which are acidic. Being acidic, they lower the pH as well - and lower the TA in the process. Using liquid chlorine does not affect the pH and hence does not lower the TA.
A TA of 60-80 will slow your pH rise. Being in Tucson, your fill water TA is probably in the 100-130 ppm range. With high evaporation, you will be working on getting the TA into the recommended range.
