Question about following "leak detection" in pool school????

I'm a little late to this party  but have a question to ask.

Did the pump ever loose prime and run for an extended period?

If so, the threads on the M?A on the effluent side of the pump may have warped

Also, the shaft seal in the pump may have been damaged, look for a drip under the pump/ motor interface.

Hi waste......better late than never! I suppose your suggestion is possible but certainly not since I noticed the small leak at the pump housing. There was a small...very small actually...leak where the plumbing comes out of the top of the pump housing headed toward the filter. Never had any water at the pump/motor interface. So I tried to fix the problem and it's actually worse. The latest I tried tonight is using the thread sealant. I gobbed it on good and screwed the fitting into the pump housing. Not sure what to do with the sealant that was squeezed out since I don't think it will harden. Should I wipe it off and apply silicone around the connection as added insurance or just leave it alone? The good news is that I can do this all day long. The parts are cheap and it eventually has to hold....right???????????
