Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has used flex core PVC Schedule 40 for their above ground pool? Is a pool plumbing a pressure application?

I was excited to hard plumb my AGP and it was going great. I was cutting the PVC pipe with a ratchet cutter and it was going well until I started working on the line to go from the filter to heater then back to the pool. I was getting ready to install a heater bypass plumbing when I noticed that my ratcheting too was having a hard time cutting the old pvs pipe. Bam! The pipe I was using was a flex core PVC while the old pipe I was cutting was a solid core PVC which I had to cut with a hack saw!

TIA,
Mike

Do you mean Foam core PVC?

Foam core is drainage pipe and not rated for pressure applications. As you noted with the PVC cutter there is big difference in strength between the two types of pipe. Pool plumbing is a low pressure application but I wouldn't use foam core pvc.

I haven't noticed when trying to cut some schedule 40 PVC that is old and been out in the sun for a while that it becomes brittle and it will not cut clean and will crack when using a cutter.
