Putting up a brand new pool and immediately winterizing.

I'm getting a new 26'x15' AG pool installed in two weeks and immediately plan to close it for winter. We are filling with a water truck.

Since we aren't going to swim now, Can I just dump a winterizing kit in and close it? Do I need to even fill it all the way and get the pumps going, only to let out some water and winterize? Do I need to "stabilize the chemicals" when I haven't even added any chemicals??
Has anybody used one of those winterizing rings that you put under the cover to stabilize the algae? I'm totally new to having any sort of pool so any and all advice is appreciated.
We get some occasional snow where we live but nothing that lasts more than a day or two. Mainly dustings.

Welcome to the forum!

We advocate a simple process to pool water management. We do not suggest use of 'winterizing kits' or 'rings'.
As you say, you will be filling and winterizing.

You will want to measure the pH and be sure it is in the low 7's. You will want to add 30 ppm CYA to the water. And you will want to raise your FC to shock level based on the CYA - see [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA].

You will need a good test kit for next year. I suggest the TF100 or Taylor K2006C. The TF100 is the best value and can be ordered from PoolSupplyWorld on the west Coast.

Hope that helps -- welcome again.

Take care.
