Pump won't start up!

So, we plugged everything in for the first time this morning...the pump makes a humming sound when you first start it and then almost immediately trips the breaker. Has anyone had this experience? Just wondering if I have to buy a new one or if it's repairable. Thanks!

Sounds like a capacitor. Caps are definitely a DIY project. Not all that expensive either. Tomorrow when you get some light, snap a pic of the motor ID tag with all the motor info on it. We might be able to get you some info on a repacement capacitor.

Took some pics this morning...but after looking at it closely (my husband mostly worked in it yesterday) I'm worried we're just bad pool owners and did something wrong! :( It looks pretty rusted and corroded inside and out. I included pics of that. Anyone have experience with this? Does it mean a new pump or is there something i can do?

Besides a potentially bad capacitor, I suspect you've had an internal leak from the main seal or bearing seals which would explain the rust (moisture) inside. Based on the looks of that motor, I would be inclined to just replace the motor. Once replaced, to include the appropriate "go-kit" (seals, etc), you should basically have a new pump.

Sorry to be a pest, but I was wondering if someone could direct me on where to buy a new motor (and seals, I guess?) for my pump? Or if it's better to buy a whole new pump? I've spent a lot of time looking around on here but understanding how the pool works is still a HUGE struggle! So I'd appreciate any help - thanks!!

Call InyoPools. Tell them what you have, what you think you need to replace. They can guide you and supply the equipment.

Can someone there do the repairs?
