Pump won't start on Intex sand filter model SF201101

I bought an Intex sand filter second hand and it worked great for two years. As I'm setting it up this year, I find that I can't get it to power on. I've replaced the GFCI plug with a regular style three prong thinking maybe that might have gotten corroded after sitting out for that long. Nope. Still no power. What else could it be? Should I try to replace the three way switch? I bought a cheap cartridge filter to get me by for now but this means I cannot use the salt chlorinator I was planning on getting.

Does it buzz or hum when you try to turn it on? If so, the startup capacitor may be bad. This is what happened to my last Intex pump. I tried to find a replacement online but could never find the right one to work. I ended up just getting a new pump. Three years seems to be about all those pumps are good for. I went through a few of them, and that's about as long as any of them lasted.

Nope. Nothing. No sound at all.

Hmmm. Not good. Unfortunately, considering the time and expense involved to repair one of these pumps, it quickly becomes more cost effective to just get a new one. I ended up going with an aftermarket Chinese-made 4500 gph model with a 19" sand filter that I found online for $299. It looks exactly like a Hayward and I suspect came off the same assembly line. It was an absolute beast compared to the Intex models I had been using and was still going strong when I moved and sold the pool. The only drawback is the need to buy or build adapters to connect to the proprietary Intex hoses. But these are available at Leslie's for about $10 for two.

You could always look for a used one on Craigslist. I used to find Intex stuff there all the time.
