I have a 2.7HP Jandy variable speed pump that's about 11 months old. I just noticed today that it squeaks when starting and stopping. Here's a video:

I saw in another thread where people reported Jandy said this was normal, but in one case Jandy replaced their pump. Any idea what this is and how I should proceed?

My Tristar single speed would make the same noise occasionally. Came from the seal area but never leaked or failed. Since have installed a rescued 2 speed Tristar ...no noises so far except i can hear the centrifugal switch rattle slightly on low speed.

I have heard that type of noise in every brand of VSP at one time or another. Sometimes it is a small "something" stuck in the fan at the rear of the motor. Sometimes it just goes away. Have asked all the manufacturers reps about it and they have not been much help. Hasn't seemed to affect the longevity of the pump (including mine when it used to do that).

Thanks for the info. Is it worth checking the fan motor somehow?

The fan is attached at the rear of the motor in a (usually) plastic housing. With the motor starting you can sometimes feel it rub the housing and just give a slight tap to reposition the housing away from the blades or remove debris that may have collected. Remember the word "slight." You don't want to break that housing. It has worked for me a few times
