I'm not sure what's going on with my pump system. Basically my pump motor shuts off when the controller goes in to freeze protection mode. The loud buzzing and click led me to believe the thermal shut off switch on the pump was being triggered. This happened last winter, pipes froze, so I let it sit til spring, then replaced the pump. Everything was good until it got cold again this winter, and the same thing is happening.

So messing with it today, I discovered if I put the controller in service mode, I can run the pump on high with no apparent issues. As soon as I change to regular operating mode, it seems like the motor's thermal protection shuts it off. Back to service mode, pump will run again. This tells me the pump motor is fine, but something is not right at the controller.
I'm at a loss what to do next; any guidance is appreciated. Thanks

Thank you for this starting point, I will research more. Does freeze protection use low speed? I have a 2 speed pump, but low stopped working a while ago, maybe when I swapped out the controller board.

You can turn on or off freeze protection for each AUX relay and, most likely, the low speed relay is coming on at the same time as the filter pump relay (high speed).

Each AUX Relay can have Freeze Enabled or disabled.

You need to configure the Filter Pump Low speed Relay as Pump Low Speed to avoid powering both relays at the same time or you will burn out your motor.

Freeze Protect in Filter Configuration can be set to high speed or low speed.

Freeze Protection Speed
This menu only appears if freeze protection is enabled and the pump is configured for 2-speed or variable speed pump operation.

If the pump turns on due to freeze protection only, the pump will run at this speed.

2-Speed pumps: Select high (default) or low speed operation.

Variable Speed pumps: Select the desired speed (from Filter Lowest to Filter Highest speed).

Freeze Protection Temperature.

Select the temperature to be used for freeze protection.

Temperature is adjustable from 33ºF-42ºF (1ºC6ºC). 38ºF (3ºC) is default.

This threshold will be used for all outputs that have freeze protection enabled.

Thank you so much! My aux1 relay was set to default. Changing it to 'Low speed of a 2 speed filter pump' seems to have fixed everything.

I also found the freeze protection high/low menu. Mine was set to high. I confirmed everything works, and then changed it to low.

Thanks again! That aux1 thing is so non-intuitive.
