Pump shut off today. I think it overheated?

Welp. The environment is shedding so filtering demand increases this time of year. 🤦‍♂️

You'll need more in the spring too, then it drops a good deal for the regular season. You can road test it at any time. If the pool is stupid clear, chances are you can lower the filter time. If the pool lost a bit of sparkle, but the #s are TFP spec, then you need a bit more filter time. Adjust as necessary, or get a VS pump and run it 24/7 for $20 a month.

I've never wondered if I was filtering enough since 2012.
Ha! I was afraid to run it 24 7 even in low. I’m so worried something would go wrong when im asleep so just stuck with the 8 -12 hours. Im just paranoid I guess. As you say in the spring I switched it to 12 and it was sparkly so I rolled with that. My bill was slightly higher this year but not alarming.

the Calimar pump looks nice!

Note - i just changed my runtime to 8 hours/day as the weather has changed so i don’t need as much fc - hopefully my next electric bill will be a little lighter!
Changing from 12 to 8 saves me $22/month
Every hour of pump run time costs me $5.56/month
I have been learning my new swg & was erring on the side of caution during peak demand to avoid running my cell at 100% but I think I can get away with 10- 11 hours in peak season.

No theory. I have a 3HP VS already. The Calimar can't be that far off. With dirt simple plumbing the SWG works at 700 rpm.

That would cost me a little over $3/month running 24/7 😳 so $40/month savings with a round the clock skimming/chlorinating gain.
Buying the 3hp calimar + the 3 year extended warranty would be $615 before tax - I would break even in roughly 15 months.
Its on the list for sure- but hard to justify when I currently own 2 working pumps
