Pump prime on timer

Finally ready after 10 days of opening SLAM! Before starting SLAM I converted to a SWG using a vertical install kit. This morning when I kicked my pump over to run on the timer it shut off and I noticed that the water in the pump basket slowly went down. I turned the pump back on and it started up again, but it did take a couple minutes for it to prime and fill the pump basket again. I guess I don't remember in the past paying much attention to whether it did this same thing before I cut out the chlorinator and installed the SWG. My question is if it's normal for the pump basket water to empty when the timer kicks the pump off? If this is not normal, I am concerned with my pump burning up by having to prime for several minutes each time it's time for it to run again.

On another note...once my water gets above 70 degrees I plan to turn the SWG on. Do I need to wait until the FC levels come down to normal to test for salt or can that test be done anytime?

Nate,

The water in your pump basket should stay in the pump basket when the pump is off. Sounds like you have an air leak. Think of it like putting your thumb over the end of a straw and removing the straw from a glass of water.. The water stays in the straw, until you take your thumb off.. Do you have any small water leaks? Have you inspected and lubed the O-Ring under your pump lid?

You can test you salt level at any time.

Thanks,

Jim R.

There are no noticeable leaks anywhere I can see. I will check the pump basket lid.
I did have a heck of a time getting the dummy cell lined up and hand tightened to where there was no leak. It started as water gushing out both ends. Then I got it to where there was just a slow drip to finally no leak at all. I am kind of afraid to mess with that until I’m ready to replace the dummy cell with the U 40. Hoping to get that done this weekend since my opening slam is now complete. Just need it to warm up!
I was home for lunch while pump was on and I did notice a small amount of water dripping out of my backwash/drain pipe. I haven’t noticed that before while the pump is running in the filter position. I turned off the pump again and notice a lot of gurgling sounds coming from around where that multi port is located?? I have attached a couple pics of my set up.
