Pump on or off during heavy rain & balanced pool

Happy 4th of July!

So today we are getting dumped on with rain in Houston. Our area is expected to get between 2-6 inches. Our pool has an overflow so that got me thinking. To help possibly keep the pool balanced I shut the pump off.

I figured the rain will mix a little with the pool water but with the pump off it won’t completely mix and I’ll be sending more rain water out the overflow then the balance pool water hopefully.

Anyone have any thought on this approach?

Once the rain stops I’ll throw the pump on high and use LC to get my FC levels back up and then run a full panel of tests

Not a bad thought but I doubt it will make much difference. Even 6" of rain in an average 50" deep pool changes some thing by only 10%.

You certainly won't hurt anything (maybe have more floating debris to collect) but I don't think it's a night and day difference

Suck from mail drains to waste, drain off 2" ahead of a rain

I don’t have a waste line but with a balanced pool I’d rather not drain anyway.

The overflow worked great. Our area received between 4-6 in of rain.

Thankfully we dont have a lot of trees in the immediate vicinity of the pool so very little debris to worry about.

FC only fell 1 ppm to 4 ppm. Since I have excess bleach from switching to salt I dump a gallon in for good measure.
