Pump not working. Is it worth shocking the pool at all?

Weather went from 50 F to 80 F in two days ... as usual :(. Opened up the pool & went to turn on the Hayward pump ... the pump won't turn over. Had the same problem last spring but was able to turn the impeller by accessing through the back panel. This year it seems to be seized so tight that I can't budge it. I'm thinking I may need a new pump - disappointing as the pump was replaced only 5 years ago.

In the meantime, is there any benefit to starting to shock the pool without the water circulating?

Thanks!

Depends on how long you think you will be without a working pump and how well you like brushing the pool to circulate the water. Do you have a submersible pump you could use for circulation?

Managed to get the pump to turn over this afternoon .. so working on dispersing the pea soup now. Late opening because of cold weather which I think has allowed to algae to build up, as our pool cover is old & is starting to be pretty transparent. Now it's suddenly 34 C!
