Hello, Im feeling deflated here and hoped to find some help here. I purchased a pool and deck from someone, the pool was a year old. It has a sand filter and she replaced the sand with media balls. She told me that she didnt use any chemicals and that was the benefit of the medial, I know she didnt have a santized pool. Ive moved on and decided I was going to use chemicals and maybe next year look in to getting the Frog system. My concern is the people I hired to put up my pool were a nightmare and still waiting for my deck after 3 weeks. They hooked the pump and filter up and that day the pump was leaking, he told me no problem I could still run it, they havent returned in 3 weeks and both the pump and filter is leaking everywhere. This week I noticed that the return in the pool doesnt feel like its pumping hardly at all. A friend was over a couple days ago and said something was wrong that it should be pumping more. What could be the problem, I have no knowledge about this and relied totally on them (what a disappointment). Is something wrong with this pump? If you have any insight, please let me know. Thanks

Hey Joni and Welcome !!! Can we get some pics of the equipment to zoom in on the leak ? Above ground pools have flex pipes and hose clamps and it sounds like they installed it in a rush so it’s probably something simple like the hoses or the filter lid wasn’t lubed.

You will want to ditch the filter balls for sand. They sound great but you have to clean them in the washing machine and nobody ever ends up wanting to do that. Sand is older than time and filters water around the world for the same amount of time. It’s one of those immaculate design things and we have yet to do better than Mother Nature.

The reason you have no flow is undoubtedly because the filter is working great. 3 weeks of minimal chemicals as you are new has almost certainly given you algae which has clogged the filter. Everybody comes in all the time figuring they have filter/pump issues when it’s a chemistry issue.

you will need to SLAM Process to kill the algae.

Thank you so much, Ill get some pictures in a couple hours when I get home. Ive been treating the pool and the water look(ed) good but the alkanity and ph was high, I did added muriatic acid at least 4 times. Thank you again
