Pump lost prime or other problem?

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble priming (I think) the main pump in a sundance montego. The pump had a slight hum to it so I pulled it out thinking the impellor might have been bound up. Everything looked to be in good nick, spun freely, and I decided the noise was coming from either the fan or bearing, neither tasks i wanted to undergo at the time. After putting the pump housing back together it has never pushed water through the jets since (worked perfectly fine beforehand). Motor turns happily, counter-clockwise looking at the wet end.

Not sure of model details but I have attached a picture below. I suppose you would call it a 1 O'clock rotation pump? I have loosened both union joints as far as I dare, both had water bursting out of them with no sign of air, yet with the pump turned on it doesn't move an ounce of water. I have tried loosening the output union while running too, water comes out at a slightly higher pressure.

In a 1 O'clock rotation pump like this is it possible an airpocket can remain trapped in the top half of the housing? How would one remove it if so? Doesn't appear to be a bleed valve. Or does anyone have any other ideas? I have the tub draining now and will pull the pump apart in the morning, unless someone has a better idea! I'm not sure how the massage selector works, could this block up somehow?

Thanks in advance!

So I pulled the pump apart today and noticed there is no wear ring between the impeller and housing end. I don't ever remeber seeing one in there. Don't know of exact pump model so can't be certain but based on many diagrams i've found, they all include one. Would missing this cause total pump ineffectiveness?
