I have a jandy pro series proflo pump. Yesterday afternoon I noticed my pool pump was off. The pump was very hot. I tired restarting and nothing. I then put a cool towel over the pump and tried restarting again a few hours later. This time the pump made a very loud humming noise then turned off automatically after about 10 seconds of humming. The motor never started.

Based on information from this forum, I think the capacitor has gone bad. At this time, I’ve turned off the breaker to the pump and ordered a new capacitor.

It will take a week for me to get the part and have time to replace it. Does this sound like a straightforward blown capacitor issue? Should I be concerned about the pump overheating causing internal damage? Is there anything else I should do while waiting for the capacitor?

It does to me.

Try to add some liquid chlorine each day and manually brush it around really, really well. Try avoid an algae issue if possible.
