Pump buzzing, tripping breaker

Hello,

I have a Hayward Super Pump 700. I noticed this morning the pump, which is on a timer, was off when it was supposed to be on. The breaker had blown. I flipped it back on, restarted the pump, and all I hear is a buzzing from it -- no water moves. After 15 seconds or so, the breaker blows again.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this?

I have the same issue where mine humms and will trip. Called pool store I used and they said it could be from all the wet weather and to let it dry out for a day or two. Hoping that's the issue.

Buzzing and humming could be two different things. Humming is often a sign of a failed start/run capacitor. If you are handy, many owners can replace that themselves.

Buzzing could be different. Could be the motor itself, or something else internally. First you might try checking to see if the motor shaft spins freely with power OFF. In the pump pot try to turn the impeller with your fingertips. If you've ever removed the motor rear cover, you should be able to get to the motor shaft from there as well with a wrench to see if it turns. Also with the cover off, perhaps check for any signs of electrical arcing. If the buzzing s really more like a hum, then the capacitor noted above could apply.

You might want to track down the capacitors in case you need them.

I would get them to have if needed.

As the capacitors begin to fail, the starting torque decreases.
