Hi folks,
Just opened my pool in SE Pennsylvania. The Whisperflow 1.5 HP pump, installed with the pool 8 years ago, has a new fairly loud whining sound but is pumping OK.
Should I get the bearing(s) replaced now or wait until they fail? Or is the whole thing nearing end of expected life?

If you are sure it is a bearing problem I would go ahead and replace the bearing. I have replaced bearings in my Whisperflo pumps and it is better to do it now rather than risk damage to the motor if the bearing locks up. I change the bearings myself. If you are mechanically inclined and have a bearing puller it is not hard to do. There are some video's on youtube. Be sure to replace the pump seal and your pump should last for many years. I replaced the bearings in my pump about two years ago and it runs like new.
