Pump and plumbing change

I am getting ready to change out my old Hayward single speed Superpump for a Pentair Superflo VS and am thinking of redoing my pad plumbing. The picture shows my current arraignment. The pump is between a fence and the filter making it tough to reach the VS controls. Current plumbing from left to right the two lines with ball valves are the skimmer and floor drain. The return to the pool is between them with the line on the right of the filter being waste. What I am thinking of doing is to switch the filter and pump. Push the filter left and place the pump to the right of the pad. Remove the ball valves and use a three way valve to the pump. If I can I would like to rotate the multi port valve 90 degrees counter clockwise so the intake from the pump will be on the right side with the pump the return connectector will line up with return line. The waste line would have to be reworked also. Any advice if that would work or is there a better way to replumb this pad.

That pump arrangement is definitely awkward! Your proposed solution sounds like a good one. You can rotate the filter/MPV as needed to get it lined up. A 3 way valve would be a good idea to help trim the flow. Jandy makes great valves. The valves you have are probably very stuck in their position by now.

Also, make sure you use unions on all 3 pipes around the MPV. When you have to pull the MPV, you will be glad you have them. Also, unions on each side of the pump as well in case you ever need to pull it for maintenance. Since you will have it apart, it would make sense to do a deep clean of the filter if it's been a while.
