Hey guys,

If there are any members here who work for a commercial pool care company I'd love if you could weigh in. We have a 60k gallon (2k square feet surface area) gunite pool in Southeast Michigan that is open from late May until mid September. It's a community pool in a complex with 300 homes but I'd say the bio-load is moderate at best (it's really not that busy of a pool). Our pool company maintains it with chlorine as a sanitizer. Without me going into heavier detail about the filtration system (I don't have access to that at the moment), do you guys as commercial pool professionals ever maintain outdoor pools in the 84-86 temperate range? Our current company is basically telling us they are incapable of keeping it balanced and algae free at that temperate range and based on my experience I just don't buy it.

Thanks all!

That is a wild story. Have they stated why they are unable to maintain a balanced pool?
It is most likely they are only using chlorine tablets and the FC/CYA Levels is out of wack. The CYA may be extremely high and they can not maintain sufficient chlorine in the pool to prevent algae.

I would expect with that large a pool, the community has an automated chlorine and/or acid system to maintain proper pool levels.

Down South, Our community pools (I am on the board of the community) are maintained throughout the full year and are kept algae free - we go from 30 degs to 105 degs and everthing in between. They have to be diligent to maintain CYA at moderate levels along with chlorine levels. Also, if they are only servicing the pool once a week then you can expect it to have more issues.
