I think you made the right decision, from a financial standpoint alone, aside from all the other related issues to "alternative" systems, they aren't worth the expense for any "benefits" one might see, and the same benefits (no algae) can be achieved by properly maintaining the pool water chemistry.

I was looking to purchase Pool Frog and stumbled on this discussion. @frustratedpoolmom is there an article in TFP that lists the Pros and Cons of using mineral sanitizers?
