I have a Proline filter which is about 2 years old. Recently the sight glass/waste port has continued to discharge water after a backwash or draining to waste. It continues discharging water, even when switching back to the filter setting and with the pump turned off (it discharges even more water with the pump running).

For some reason, when I open and empty the pump basket of water and then put it back together, the sight glass stops leaking and the pump can be returned to normal operation. The pool water has also suddenly become cloudy in the past few days, even though the pump and filter appear to be operating normally.

I am not an experienced pool owner and have no idea what could be causing this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to TFP! Your pool is quite new, but it sounds as though your multiport valve (MPV) spider gasket is compromised allowing water to seep out when it should be keeping water channeled to the appropriate area you select on the MPV. Do you normally turn the MPV in the same direction when changing settings? Some people claim the spider gasket might get pinched when going in different directions. You might have to remove the MPV top and inspect. Or if the pool/equipment is still under warranty give the installer a call.

The cloudiness sounds like a different issue, perhaps the beginning of algae. To know we would need to see a set of water test results from either a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit. If it is algae, we utilize the SLAM Process to remove algae. You'll want to ensure the water is clean before you close your pool in the near future.

We can help you with all of these issues, but having the proper test kit is a must. See my signature for the TF-1000 link.
