I know it's still swimming season in PA, but fall is fast approaching and in a little over a month, I expect to be closing our pool. I have a mesh loop lock cover and have it tensioned as taught as possible. We live in an open area and the wind will lift the cover, which causes wear on the coping. Every spring I clean and touch up the coping to repair the wear, but it is wearing more than the paint, some of the aluminum is showing wear.

I have tried water bag, I have tried placing 5 gallon buckets on the straps at the coping, and coping protectors (from loop lock). No matter the amount of weight placed on the cover, the wind makes the cover rise and fall (you just can't beat physics & mother nature). The protectors work somewhat, but some of them shift over the winter, and there is still wear.

Does anyone have any ideas to prevent coping damage from the loop lock cover.

What about pool noodles ? They will keep the cover off the coping, add a little more tension to reduce the parachute effect AND stop any debris from blowing in ? If the noodles are too thick you could use 1 inch pipe insulation/ foam.
