Hi Everyone,
I have a Pentair Mastertemp 400 heater. I'm trying to learn how to close the pool myself so I was wondering if there's anything I need to do to closedown and prepare the heater for winter? Thanks
regards,
densi

Winterizing instructions for the heater are in the manual.

Pentair MasterTemp Heaters- Winterizing

Hi All,
I hope I can bump this back up because now that I've read through the instructions I"m hoping someone with Pentair Mastertemp 400 knowledge can help me. I"ve tried the Pentair site which is of no help.

I downloaded and read through the instructions for winterizing my heater. I've been able to find all the parts except one so I've got two questions: First question: Can anyone tell me the location of the outlet pipe for the manifold and I quote "Drain the plastic inlet/outlet manifold through the outlet pipe" - can't find it. Nothing in the specs or on the Internet. Second question: I see no mention of blowing out the water from the heater. Is it enough just to drain from the drain cock and manifold without blowing out any water from the system? If needed, I included a photo of the piping in/out through the manifold.

The plastic inlet/outlet manifold is the black section in your pic that the white PVC pipes are attached to. They want you to check that water is not pooling in the black output line where the PVC pipe connects to it.

Whether you can blow through the heater depends if you have a union youc an disconnect to blow into that leads to the heater. If you have a SWG downstream from the heater output that can be disconnected to blow into the heater out pipe.

All will work as per instructions if and when the heater is sitting perfectly level. That way all the pitches are as designed and the water will find its way to the exit. I find too often slabs aren't level and the the equipment isn't either. That's my concern when I see those scenarios and then you need the extra insurance of blowing air so that no pooling takes place.

FWIW, I installed pool hoses between the manifold and the hard piping. Makes it easy to disconnect the heater from the system and blow down the heater and lines. I'm going to try the leaf blower instead of the compressor for blowdown this year. My heater and pipes are pitched down towards the pool which helps also.
