Preferred method of adding pool chemicals?

I learned from this site that the best way to add stabilizer is to put the desired amount into a sock and let it absorb through the skimmer. Adding liquid chlorine is best achieved by slowly pouring it around the perimeter of the pool. Not sure about adding baking and washing soda? Should I disperse it into the deep end or spread it evenly around the pool and then brush, or slowly add it to the skimmer?

The CYA in the sock is correct. You can add liquid chlorine while walking the perimeter of the pool, but you are likely to splash it on your pants and shoes. We recommend pouring the liquid chlorine in a thin stream into the return flow of the pool with the pump running. Dry chemicals can be broadcast into the pool, and then the pool is brushed to help them dissolve.

Adding liquid chlorine is best done by pouring it directly in front of a running return jet in the deep end of the pool. The force of the running return will spread the chlorine briskly into the pool.

It's always good practice to brush the pool in the vicinity of the chemical addition when you are finished adding.
