Poured In Place Coping Cracks

you would only have to draw the pool water lower IF the tile line would have too big of a gap with a bullnose paver or similar, and then add a tile slice to fill the gap or grout/caulk it if its acceptable. your other issue is the base for pavers/stones is different than concrete. they would have to remove at least 5" of material and put a 4" minimum packed base and then a 1" max screed bed of concrete sand to lay the pavers. they could also pour another concrete slab lower and mortar the pavers to that slab. either way its more than just replacing the concrete with something else, the prep is totally different. regardless I hope you come out OK in the end, it sucks that you even had to deal with this. If you do concrete again make sure they protect their work from the elements and the sun this time
Thanks for the reply, I'm only having these guys demo out their own bad work, was trying to have him pay me what it would cost him to remove and replace, but he ultimately said he wanted to do it. So we basically came to an agreement that as long as he removed the decking (no replacement) and removed and replaced the bad sections of coping that I would be ok with that. But now I'm just thinking of removing the remaining coping and replacing it with pavers or some kind of stone. Our decking is going to be concrete, the landscaper that I have scheduled is supposed to be out in about 2 weeks, weather depending and told me a few weeks ago how he prepares the base prior to putting down the concrete. Basically he removes so many inches of dirt and then backfills/compacts with road base material. Sorry for the long reply, I know I'm going to loose money but and very hopeful that everything turns out how I imagine it in my head.

Just wanted to post an update...... It’s been a long process but today we were finally able to pour the coping. The owner of the landscape company that I have redoing my backyard and his crew really pulled this off. Not a single tile damaged while removing the messed up coping installed by the pool builder and a beautiful finish. I’m so happy and relieved, everything else should move quick now!

Great outcome! You shouldn't have had to do any of this but your solution will be a much happier one in the long run.
It’s crazy the night and day deference between people who take pride in their trade/business vs. those who just want to collect money. The owner was actually in the water finishing the inside face of the coping. They came last night to set up the inside foam forms and were back at 530 this morning to pour.

Finally starting to come along, will post more pictures today when they’re done with the concrete. So happy to finally have stairs and concrete back around the pool, oh and drains too!
