Post IRMA question regards to sanitize and ph

OK here we go dear friends:

We lost our screen so now we have lots of leaves and frogs ect

I have vacuumed and cleaned filters but feel the need to sanitize it

1. How long do I slam for sanitation?

2. My ph is low??? It has never been low, is this because of lots of rain or no screen?

3. In regards to ph when adding borax do I dissolve it first ( I am going to do this but wanted a expert answer also for future)

Pretty Please, I have looked and don't see info on how long to slam for sanitation after a storm

A SLAM is the same whether it's from the storm or algae. You hold the shock level until you pass the 3 criteria, clear water no sign of algae, pass overnight chlorine test and CC are .5 or below.

do you know if the lack of screen is why my ph went so low or just lots and lots of rain water?

Mine dropped also and it's usually an issue keeping it under 8. I didn't expect the drop but for me one reason is I floated pucks to keep my FC and CYA up during the storm and while without power, but somehow the nasty water that washed in there must have had an effect also. IT's back to 7.4 today everything is back my CSI is now -.2 so it didn't take long to have a TFP pool again

What is your TA level? My guess is your pH is low because of the low TA in all the rain. I doubt the screen had anything to do with it. Use baking soda to raise your TA to 60 if it is low.

Pooldv: Thank you, I looked for that and for some reason in eluded me. I was really trying to be a TFP person lol

Basictek: Glad you are back in norms, we are all trying to get back to norm lol

Will retest numbers today, to check yesterdays adjustments
