POSSIBLE LEAK IN WINTERIZED POOL

Got my above ground pool winterized and covered about a month ago. I have always put a plug in the return jet and put a skimmer door/cover on so I can fill the pool to the top. I have found this makes putting the cover on easier and eliminates the sag in the cover. Have done this for years with no issues. This year I noticed that the water level had dropped. i suspected a leak by at the return or skimmer but that was not the case. I have pooled water on the ground on the opposite side of the pool. Seems like I may have a leak in the liner. I did not have one before closing so not sure what happened. I will keep an eye on it to see if the level drops more. My question is... if I do have a hole/tear in the liner, what are my options? I hate to uncover, find the leak in super cold water, but what happens if i leave it alone all winter? Will it ruin the liner? Hopefully the leak is not in the bottom as I know it wouldn't be good to have any empty pool all winter. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

A lot will depend on the location. If the water level falls low enough, I would be concerned about the cover pulling the walls in/down. So if you aren't able to repair the leak, you might consider removing the cover and look to see if there is any way for your to keep the walls supported vertically from lack of water, wind, etc.

Another thought, if the leak is indeed near the bottom, enough water may drain out to where you can walk in there and repair it as opposed to try having your whole body in cold water.

Definitely remove the cover. No need to make a bad situation worse.
Got any rust in that area on the outside?
