So, one of our main rationales for our pool, our wonderful grandson, had a leak from the swim diaper a week ago. I had been procrastinating on raising my CYA level (need to go to a store, and have been traveling a lot), so we didn't have to raise the FC level to insane numbers to get to SLAM levels. I had a packet of dry "Zappit" (73% Cal Hypo) left over from the PB and sprinkled it in, which, with a little boost from our SWCG, raised the FC level to SLAM levels. Two questions: 1) since bleach goes bad after a while, and we won't use it on a regular basis, what product do you recommend keeping on hand for pool yuck emergencies? 2) Since poop happens (although this was a first, despite many hours with baby in the pool over the last 3 months) is it worth keeping the CYA levels a little lower than the 70 - 80 recommended for SWCG pools, in case we have another incident? We are going to start double diapering him, but, well, you know....

In your situation, with significant water turnover due to rain, I would keep cal hypo packets similar to what you used. Easy to use, easy to store.

I would first ask- was this normal for the baby poop or illness poop? If it was normal and you got any solids out of there pronto, I'd take the FC up to SLAM level for a day.

If he was having diarrhea I would say you need to SLAM longer than just a day. Too many gastric diseases can be spread in a pool by diarrhea.

The CDC recommends that people who have diarrhea avoid swimming for two weeks even after you think its resolved as there are small elements of stool on everyones bottoms which can be easily "shared" in pools.

I always have a jug of bleach in the laundry room, and one in the garage so it tends to get used up and replaced often enough.
