Pool valves stuck/frozen

I just purchased a home that is 23 years old. I don’t believe the pool valves have been moved in many years. I’m afraid to put pressure on them to try to turn them in fear they’ll break. The variable speed pump is set to clean and not skim. I want to turn the valve to do both. Thank you for your input.

Can you post some photos of the valves. It may be best to try to take them apart before forcing them.

Did you loosen the thumb screws before attempting to turn the handles?

Not that I remember.

The thumb screws help hold the handles in position.
Loosen the thumb screws and try again.

When tightening the thumb screws, just snug them up - don't over tighten.

Which Polaris do you have? As each pool and pump is different, it is a matter of trial and error most of the time.
