For the first time since we've gotten it, rain has worked faster and harder than evaporation. Water is almost to top of skimmer opening.

I had thought I'd be using opportunities like this to backflush the filter, but honestly, the gauge really never climbs beyond initial reading for a given RPM. I recorded the guage pressures at several pump RPM's when the pool was installed.

I've been backflushing every 2 - 4 weeks, 2.5 minutes backflush + 1 minute rinse, just because I was told I should. But I don't think we're picking up enough dirt to really justify it, and I wonder if unnecessary backflushing is bad for the media (do you lose some each time?).

So, with the pool very full, should I backflush or just waste? It has been 2 - 3 weeks since my last backflush, but pressure gauge still reads the same as it did immediately after last backflush.

If you don't think you need to backwash yet - don't. Just use the waste option.

We recommend backwashing or cleaning a filter when the filter pressure rises 25% above clean pressure - pump running at 3000+ rpm for this check.
