Pool salt recommendations

Avoid clorox pool salt
You can just dump it in & brush it around while you’re filling if you wish.
Be sure to leave your swg off for 24 hours
so it’s fully mixed in.
Add about 3/4 of what PoolMath calls for then retest the following day & add the rest based on your results so you don’t overshoot your target.

Be sure to have some liquid chlorine to chlorinate the pool 1) on startup after refill (SWG is good at maintaining, not good at raising FC), and 2) while the SWCG is off while you are titrating salt up to desired level.

In Canada... we have 2 major companies (Windsor or Sifto). Windsor Ontario has one of the largest salt mines underground in the world.

Pool owners have suggested over the years we can use water softener salt that has no additives....

After a bit of research I found this out. Windsor® Clean & Protect pellets (was called Windsor system Saver II) are 99.5% salt
However additives are;
Very low concentrations of a surfactant (detergent)
Sodium citrate - a naturally occurring, food-approved material common to citrus fruits. It is designed to dissolve over time.

Only recommended only to be used in water softening units. Windsor does not recommend using Windsor® Clean & Protect as a replacement for Windsor® Pool Salt.
