Pool Pump Problem

The video says it all. I throw the breaker on, and I get a loud horn like noise then breaker blows after about six seconds. I think its a bad pump motor. Thoughts from the experts? It is the original pump, built in 2007, so I suppose it did all right.

Should I replace the pump also or just the motor. It looks to me that they are usually get replaced together which makes sense. The pump has had a lot of wear as well. I am pretty handy but I probably going to hire someone to replace it. How much such I expect to pay? parts and labor?

Also, I have a small water feature (about six feet wide by 3ft tall) and that pump stopped working last year. But the pump always seemed huge to me and pushed way more water than was needed. Granted it gave a good waterfall noise but the pump noise behind it was not trivial and made it kind of a waste. Is such a large pump/motor really needed for the feature and are is there any advice on repacking this.

Thanks in advance!

It is probably either a bad start capacitor or frozen bearings. Can you spin the motor shaft by hand?

How handy are you?

When my pump crapped out I disconnected the wires and unbolted the motor from the housing and took it to the local indie pool supply place. It wasn't hard. I just dropped it off and a couple hours later they called to come get it. All ready to go and a new gasket to seal the plate to the housing. I don't think I was down even 8 hours total.

I am handy enough to do that. Thank for the tip, I will call around and see anyone can work like that around here.

Thanks,
