One of my pool pumps only clicks when I or the Jandy try and turn it on. On the relay switch for 1 and 3 I got 230v but I get nothing on 2 and 4. I turned all the breakers on and off hoping that was the problem but it is not. Can a bad relay switch do this or is it something else... Thanks

Update: So I decide to go out and see if the click is coming from the relay switch (to see if it is the switch or if it coming from the back of the pump). I put Jandy in service and hit the button for the pump. The sound is coming from BOTH the relay and the back of the pump. I tried this several times. I then put the pump back into AUTO mode on the Jandy....and the freaken pump kicks on. I have popped breakers, checked for obstructions, loose wires, etc and it kicks on coming back into service mode...which I had done previously with no help. But now it works.
SO if it goes down again I am going to change the starter capacitor....
Can't help you with the pump, but in the meantime add liquid bleach and mix it around as best you can to avoid algae.

Update, pump again doesnt start. Thought it may be the start capacitor but the pump is very old so I decided to put a new pump on. NOPE, not the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you checked the fuse in the fuse box? Make sure if you have multiple fuses that you check both of them "when in doubt, change the fuse". Also look for moisture inside the box.

If you have power on 1 and 3 the "Line side" and no pwr on 2 and 4 the load side then the relay is bad. There is dielectric grease inside the relay that will get old and start sticking. Sometime's it will release that's why your pump will work in odd ways. Some times it gets stuck in the open position or in the closed position. Open = off closed = on. When in service mode turn the pump on and if the motor is not working "thump" the relay with your finger or the handle of a non conductive Phillips head screwdriver and it should respond in some way... meaning the pump should kick on. The pump relay is usually the first relay in the upper left hand corner in the bottom section of the power center. To be certain look at the bottom of the main board and find the "Filter" connection etched in white in the first position and follow the black and red leads to the relay. Go to amazon and get a Jandy 3HP relay with leads, should cost you around 20 bucks. take a pic and replace the wires EXACTLY. (turn the breaker or main switch off first. ~JT
Jason nailed it! I was just coming on to say I had figured it out and it was the relay switch and saw his post... Most of the time as he said we know it goes bad because it is stuck on...ON.... However, I pulled a relay switch off the pool light and moved it to the pump...and it was the relay switch.
