pool pump noise

Bought a used Hayward SP2607X102S 2 speed 1hp from eBay for $250 Inc shipping, it looks like an open box / customer return but I won't know for sure until I get it

I'm going to watch some YouTube videos and will attempt to install myself, otherwise will find someone to do the install

Just received my pump it is well used and I'm concerned it won't work or has bad bearings or something. Is there a way to test it before installing?


Also, the model number of the pump is SP1607Z2MSC, which is a Century or A.O Smith. So it looks as if the original motor was replaced. I may have to return it, not sure what to do at this point.
 
You can run it dry for a few seconds to see if spins up. Putting water in the pump basket will help protect the seal but cover or plug the outlet or things will get messy.

Does the replacement motor look fairly new? Can you post a picture?
 
Looks ok for a used pump. Hook it up and try it out. Use unions so that you can replace it if necessary.

Also, it looks like the original motor. None of the manufacturers make their own motors. Most use AOSmith Century.

yes it has a little toggle switch on the outside
i still haven't had a chance to install it, i will do so next week. hopefully i'm not skating on thin ice


the videos i've watched suggest using a medium setting (not quick) pvc cement "WeldOn pool heavy 746", but neither lowes or hd carry that, any other suitable suggestions?

having some difficulty finding threaded unions at either lowes or home depot, i think this is what i need (x2):

any suggestions on where to get these?

since it's a different pump, i'm guessing i will need to extend or move the existing pipes, what's the best way to do that?
