The title above says it all about me. We are very happy to be a part of this forum. We live in Fountain Hills, Az moved from Kirkland, Wa about a month ago. We love the area and people, very friendly and helpful.
We bought a home here and are putting in a 20' x 13' pool, 4 to 5' deep w/o a jucuzzi. We would like a system that is relatively hassle free as we are both in our 70's and have little knowledge of pool building or maintenance. Since we want to use the pool most of the yr we will have electric heating.
I am perplexed about installing a Paramount PV3 in floor cleaning sys or using a pool cleaning robot. I think the PV3 is the way to go but I don't have any info on the breakdown frequency or cost of maintenance. There are few trees in the area mostly cactus, flora and other beautiful shrubs so I expect most of the cleaning will be dust, etc.
Any advice/info you can pass on to us would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TFP! Many posts on here by owners and experts recommend against a floor cleaning system. I originally used a suction cleaner and many still use pressure cleaners. My experience is they work but robots clean much more thoroughly. On the flip side they are more expensive and have a limited life of 3-5 years. For me, that's OK and what I'll be doing for my pool currently under construction. Also, if you don't like the idea of a power cord on the deck you can limit this by installing a 2" under ground pipe for the cord to the house outlet that will be used for it.

Additional Advice:
  • I strongly recommend you look through TFP's guidance on pool maintenance. This system works, and it's simple. You don't have to be an expert. Plus as you get started you'll have a ton of expert advice for support. Our experts volunteer their time to help members with everything pool related. We sell nothing so our advice is never conflicted. Here's a few things to read to get started:
  • Consider a salt pool. It's way easier to maintain and most people prefer the "spa like" feel to the water.
  • Spend at least as much time learning how to select and contract for a pool builder. We have some published support for this in this Wiki section.
  • Down the road you'll need to decide if you want to maintain your own pool or use a service. Think about doing it yourself and stay away from pool stores until you've read up on the basics here. Doing it yourself is almost always the best answer. There are many great stores and many not so great. Problem is you don't know what you're dealing with until it's too late.
